As we all know there are many opportunities throughout the construction industry including licensed trades (such as electrical), unlicensed trades (such as carpentry), project supervisors and managers for general contractors and subcontractors, estimators, marketing, and business development and more. The demand has never been greater. 650,000 ADDITIONAL WORKERS ARE NEEDED TO MEET DEMAND IN 2023 ALONE. Construction offers long-term careers with family-supporting wages and opportunities for advancement. Workers in the licensed trades are often earning six-figure salaries. You can earn a great living with a rewarding career without college debt. In construction, college is not a requirement.
We are excited to inform you that we have formalized our workforce development program Building Mass Careers into a 501c3 non-profit. This status will help us support the member construction companies within the Merit Shop world.
We must put a show of force together to increase our capacity to bring more people into the construction industry to our member companies. To do this, we need your help. We need your financial support, your in-kind contributions like vehicle donations, tools, PPE, scholarship funding for training, and support of our students who are seeking employment.
With your generous support we can be better equipped to attend high school career fairs, engage with the national organizations like SkillsUSA, Youth Build and Job Corps, vocational schools, and traditional high schools. Your financial support will also help us engage with community-based organizations and other non-profits that have clients that could seamlessly join our industry.
How can Building Mass Careers help our member General Contractors:
Building Mass Careers engages all types of potential workers that could be added to our industry. BMC connects with the Massachusetts One Stop Career Centers, returning veterans, dislocated workers, new Americans with construction experience from their home country, out of school youth, people with disabilities and college graduates who are looking for a job in the construction industry. BMC helps people realize their existing strengths that could be turned into transferable skills for our industry…for example explaining to someone that is very adept at math that they could make a great family wage as an Estimator. Identifying someone who is highly proficient with computers and helping them understand that they can make a great living using construction software.

How can Building Mass Careers help our member Subcontractors:
Building Mass Careers interacts directly with the Commonwealth’s vocational schools and traditional high schools to broker kids into the construction industry.
Students coming out of a vocational school trade program can bring up to 300 classroom hours into their apprenticeship. BMC helps these graduates understand that the union is not the only option to work in the construction industry.
Through our engagement at high schools and community-based organizations, we identify, and help students enroll and complete our pre-apprentice immersion course utilizing the nationally recognized curriculum from the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) CORE 6.0 construction. When these graduates complete our program, they bring almost 100 hours of apprenticeship credits to one of our member companies.
How can Building Mass Careers help our Associate member companies:
Not all our program graduates will decide to become a tradesperson or a construction manager, some will seek a career at one of our suppliers, distributors, or equipment rental companies. Our labor ready members would be in a great position to help broker these new graduates into a position with one of their clients.
